Therapy WorksTherapy works for a variety of needs. In my experience, the trust that forms in a professional counseling relationship is a kind of soil where self-awareness and compassion can grow. These can be powerful catalysts for positive change when paired with the evidence-based interventions a skilled therapist can offer.
My Approach To TherapyINSIGHT. My approach is collaborative and relies on our mutual exchange to decide the focus of our work. Together, we clarify your experience and what you would like to see happen as a result of therapy. Sometimes what we think is the problem is only a symptom. The process of discovery, looking and seeing together, and broadening perspective can be transformative.
COMPASSION. My orientation is strengths-based and person-centered. Each of us brings our own cultural and spiritual identities that impact how we see, feel, think and live. I welcome and value diverse backgrounds; all faiths and none, and any political or sexual orientation. I respect each person's unique sense of timing and right to make their own choices. I offer skilled listening, honest feedback, help to review options, and a consistent, caring presence to share the difficult parts of the progress. When we can bring both clarity and kindness to our challenges, efforts toward change become more possible. CHANGE. Often an initial desire for help leads to a process of learning new skills and making new connections in our lives in order to create the changes we seek. My expertise in therapy draws from motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as trauma resiliency, interpersonal, conflict resolution and solution-focused strategies. I invite active participation in therapy, often with questions or actions to consider between sessions. Trained in mindfulness practices and yoga for behavioral health, I incorporate these tools into sessions when there is interest. |
